Nonesuch Sloe Liqueur - Peta pays tribute to Peta Jongenelen (1952 -2021) who, as owner of Rayburn Farm, generously leased us a site at her farm on which to build our distillery.
Peta shared our excitement as we reached various milestones and she will always be remembered with real affection and gratitude.
We wanted to honour Peta with a special release product but it had to be a product that, like Peta, was “one of a kind”.
After considering many possible products we remembered that some years ago we had set aside a ridiculously small vat of Sloe Gin and an even smaller vat of Sloe Malt.
Each year we removed ¼ of the sloes and replaced them with sloes from the new harvest. This process added to the usual rich character of our sloe products and had us intrigued about the potential of such a process.
We decided the ultra-infused spirit in these vats should be what we used to create a special liqueur.
The first step was to craft a bespoke blend that perfectly balanced the Sloe Gin and Sloe Malt and allowed the character of each to show through.
The resulting liqueur was then aged in an oak cask that had previously used to mature a classic Nonesuch Singe Malt whisky. This introduced some extra complexity and a slight tannin note.
All of this bought together the qualities of each of the Nonesuch products that Peta had experienced us making.
The bottles in this expression were produced for Peta's family however they have very kindly made a few bottles available for our online customers.
