Six Years in the Making – Our First 6 Year Age Statement Single Malt is Almost Here
Some whiskies are planned.
Others simply take their own path.
Our upcoming 6 Year Old Tasmanian Single Malt is one of those whiskies.
Back in October 2019, we filled a humble 50-litre ex-Pinot Noir cask with fresh spirit from our copper pot still. At the time, we had no idea what the next six years would hold. The world was about to change in ways none of us could have imagined.
That barrel was filled before COVID changed daily life. Before lockdowns. Before uncertainty became part of everyone's vocabulary.
It was also filled before the youngest addition to our family, Lilly, was born in 2021.
While life rushed forward, this single cask quietly sat on the rack of our bond store, slowly transforming. Seasons came and went. Summers warmed the whisky deep into the oak, winters slowed everything back down, and every year added another layer of complexity.
Now, six years later, it's finally ready.
A New Direction for Nonesuch Single Malt
This release feels like an important milestone for us.
For years we've focused on producing whiskies that showcase bold character and the influence of small cask maturation. This release builds on everything we've learned, but it also represents a shift in what we believe a mature Nonesuch single malt can be.
This whisky is about balance.
Rich enough to reward experienced whisky drinkers.
Approachable enough that someone discovering Tasmanian single malt can immediately understand why we love making it.
The result is a whisky packed with flavour while remaining remarkably easy to enjoy.
The Cask
This whisky has spent its entire life in a used 50-litre Pinot Noir barrel.
The previous life of the cask leaves its mark without overpowering the spirit. Instead of dominating with heavy wine influence, it complements the whisky with layers of fruit, gentle spice, caramels and oak, allowing the character of the malt spirit to remain front and centre.
It's exactly what we hoped six years of patience would deliver.
Two Ways to Experience the Same Whisky
We'll be releasing this whisky in two different expressions.
The Everyday Dram
Around 80 bottles will be bottled at approximately 45% ABV.
This is the version we expect many people will reach for time and time again. It's approachable, balanced and full of flavour without demanding anything from the drinker except a good glass and a little time.
Straight From the Cask
For those who like to experience whisky exactly as it comes from the barrel, we'll also bottle around 25 bottles at natural cask strength.
No water added.
No compromises.
Just the whisky exactly as it matured over six years inside that single Pinot Noir cask.
Choosing which to take home will be a tricky choice but for some It will be a rare opportunity to compare the same whisky in two very different styles.
Our First 6 Year Age Statement
This release also marks another milestone.
It will be the first Nonesuch whisky to proudly carry a 6 Year Age Statement.
An age statement doesn't automatically make a whisky better. Great whisky is about the quality of the spirit, the cask, the climate and knowing when it's ready.
For this cask, six years simply happened to be the point where everything came together.
Coming This September
Every bottle comes from the same single cask, meaning once it's gone, it's gone forever.
We're incredibly proud of where this whisky has ended up. It has quietly matured through one of the most eventful periods in our lives and in recent history, and somehow emerged exactly as we'd hoped—balanced, complex and unmistakably Nonesuch.
We can't wait to share it with you.
Our First 6 Year Old Single Malt arrives in September 2026.
